We are very excited to announce
that just as with our recent new Ticketing System
improvements, we will be making upgrades to brand new
servers and more powerful control panel software
beginning next month (June). The upgrades will also
feature the latest server software versions, better spam
protection, and more than 50 new one-click-install tools
available to all customers in a new control panel that
comes with video tutorials to graphically demonstrate
the use of each tool.
For the past 2 years we've been
actively managing servers and hundreds of clients on our
this newer platform and have noticed consistent
performance improvements and, most importantly, recieved
plenty of positive customer feedback: "faster site"
"less spam" "love the control panel."
There are a
handful of key details described below about our
upgrade; for 99% of clients only the email update is
critical.
EMAIL:
There are two simple changes that need to be made
to your mail client (the email software on your
computer) for any OWH domain name based emails. It's a
simple 2 step process:
1. Under "E-mail username"
enter your FULL address (the old system
required only the mailbox name). 2.
Check "My server requires
authentication" For more details and screen
shots, see: Email
Configuration Update
ACCOUNT
PORTAL: OWNER AND BILLING DETAILS:
Your Client Area/Portal is your main access point for managing all aspects of your new One World Hosting services, from access to cPanel(s) and webmail, as well as billing and domain name management.
REMINDER: your Client Portal Login password may be different from your account control panel(s) password. To reset and obtain your Portal password, visit this URL:
https://newworldhosting.com/pwreset.php
Once you submit that form you will get a confirmation and a new password will be sent, and that will be your Portal access at:
https://newworldhosting.com/clientarea.php
Once you log in you can connect directly to any of your account control panels, and also view:
- Hosting account control panel usernames and passwords (+ a direct link to each control panel login)
- Open and archived support tickets
- Billing details and payment options
ACCOUNT
CONTROL PANEL AND TOOLS:
To login to your
new cPanel you can connect via your client portal as
noted above, or go directly via this URL format:
http://mydomain.com/cpanel
For a complete list of New versus Old control panel
tools, see: CPANEL: How Do
I?
RESELLING
ACCOUNTS: "Reselling", or adding a "resold"
account is no longer done through your account control
panel. Instead, just go to the New World Hosting
order form and select "Resold Hosting", or visit this
link directly:
ORDER A RESOLD HOSTING
ACCOUNT When you
place the order and enter your client details, the
system will recognize you and fill in your own
details. You simply need to describe the specifics
of the new account. Rates and terms are
unchanged.
MISCELLANEOUS
CHANGES: 1.
Usernames. Our new system does not permit account
or FTP usernames with a hyphen "-" or underscore
"_". If your username had one of these marks, it
has been removed. So for example, username
john_smith will be changed
to johnsmith.
2. Free server
secure certificate. The free server secure
certificate is still available, but you must make two
small changes to your code. As the server names
are changing in this upgrade, your path must reflect the
new server name. Use "webserveralpha" for
"webserver1010". Second, in place of the domain
name you must now use your username, preceeded by a
tilde "~". For example, if your path was: https://host5.webserver1010.com/domainname/index.html
it will now be: https://host5.webserveralpha.com/~username/index.html
3. FTP. To
publish your site via FTP, just use
ftp.yourdomain.com (substitute
your real domain name). If you are publishing with
FrontPage, make sure you install/activate the FP
Extensions (there's an icon for it in cPanel) and then
you should be able to publish right to the domain name
as you are used to.
One big difference
is in the naming of the folders. On the old server, the
'web root' was called $domain-www (where
$domain was your domain name without the extension), and
a shortcut called 'www' was also there. Well, the 'www'
is still available, but the web root is now called
'public_html' in your account. If
you've been publishing to 'www' then no changes are
needed! Note: if you have any scripts that use the full
server path (i.e. home/$user/$domain-www) you'll need to
swap out $domain-www for the new
'public_html'.
4. Dedicated IP. Dedicated IPs
are no longer available by default. If your
site has a secure SSL certificate, a dedicated IP is
required, and will be provided at no charge. If
you wish to add a Dedicated IP to your account, the fee
is $1/month for each IP.
5. PHP version. Both PHP 4 and
5 are available for every account. To select
between them, simply select "PHP Configuration" in your
control panel and toggle between 4 and 5.
6. SiteXpress is not available on
the new servers, as it is proprietary and no longer
updated. The current, published ("live") version of
sites published with SiteXpress will be brought over and
will be active, but the editing interface will not.
RVSiteBuilder is our new web building tool, and it is
vastly superior - we guarantee you'll find it both
simpler to use and more powerful. For more details
please see RVSiteBuilder
Details
Urchin stats will
not be available in the new environment. Google has
purchased Urchin and ceased development on the
standalone product. Fortunately, we have 2 excellent
statistics analyzers (AWStats and Webalizer) installed
and ready for you at no extra charge. Pick the one you
like best.
7. MySQL database names. Instead of $domain_com_$dbname, your
databases created in cPanel will have the format
$userid_$dbname. Any databases
you have in your account will be renamed accordingly,
and the pages or configuration files that use the
database name will be updated. For future database
uses, be aware of this new naming style. The default
version of MySQL on servers remains 4.x, but 5.x is
available for any account - just let us know.
8. Name Servers. Every
existing name server configuration will be preserved -
no changes are needed. If you have custom virtual name
servers (VNS) those will also be preserved in identical
fashion - no need to change them for any existing
account, and you can continue to use them for any new
account. The only change required for
VNS is to update the IP addresses at your
registrar. This process can be done at the
completion of the upgrade process, and the new IP
addresses should be:
69.167.161.33 (primary) 69.167.161.37
(secondary)
9. Webmail. All email and configurations
(folders, address books) will be preserved. The
OpenWebMail application is very dated, and two new
webmail programs will replace it: Horde and
RoundCube. Both have far superior
functionality. You can select to use either
program from your new control panel, although if you
have existing folders and address books, those can only
be brought into Horde. New folders
and address books can be created within either
tool.
10. Server IP and DNS Services. If you have an
account using a DNS service to route email or other site
content, then you will need to update the DNS record to
reflect the new IP address associated with the server on
which your account resides. To find this IP
address simply log into your account control panel - the
Server IP address is in the list of configuration
details in the left column of
cPanel.
10. Server IP and DNS Services. If you have an account using a DNS service to route email or other site content, then you will need to update the DNS record to reflect the new IP address associated with the server on which your account resides. To find this IP address simply log into your account control panel - the Server IP address is in the list of configuration details in the left column of cPanel.
